The Adamawa State Government has launched a ₦3 billion agricultural empowerment programme aimed at supporting 6,900 smallholder farmers across its 23 local government areas.
The initiative, announced by Commissioner for Agriculture, David F. Jatau, will provide land, inputs, and technical support to 300 farmers in each LGA.
Under the programme, 300 hectares of farmland will be developed per LGA, making it one of the largest agricultural schemes in the region. The intervention prioritizes youth and women, aiming to strengthen food security and build resilience in vulnerable communities.

"The state has approved ₦3 billion to procure and distribute fertilizers, improved seeds, and other critical inputs," Jatau said. He added that a selection committee, involving traditional councils, local authorities, women and youth groups, and security agencies, will ensure fair beneficiary selection.
In addition to inputs, farmers will receive training from agricultural extension officers on modern practices, soil health, and sustainable land use. The government is also partnering with NGOs and development agencies, with over 2,700 hectares pledged for cultivation.
"This is a strategic, inclusive intervention designed to equip farmers not just with resources, but with the knowledge to succeed," Jatau noted. Rollout begins in the coming weeks.
