After graduation, she faced the harsh realities of entrepreneurship clients were hard to find, and capital was limited. While working a 9–5 as an Executive Assistant, she got the opportunity to learn directly from the CEO of Finesse Event Services. Though Finesse focused on grand-scale events, she discovered her true calling in creating smaller, intentional celebrations where every guest feels seen.

How did your journey into event planning begin?
I started back in school with gift items and love notes. After graduation, I realised getting clients outside school was much harder. So, I took on a 9–5 as an Executive Assistant while building my brand. Working with the CEO of Finesse Event Services gave me the foundation I needed, but I knew my heart was with intimate gatherings where people feel connected and cared for.
Why focus on intimate gatherings?
Because I'm naturally hospitable and a lover of love. With large guest-size events, you can't satisfy everyone, but at Starz Surprises, I want every guest to feel noticed. Even when we plan events with over 100 guests, our goal is to keep things intentional and personal.
What sets Starz Surprises apart from others?
We approach every job like it's our last. My mentor always says, "No job is too small." For us, it's not just about décor—it's about relationships. We prioritise patience, grace, and understanding in every interaction.
What has been your biggest business lesson?
At first, I thought low pricing was my strength, but I quickly realised that without profit, it's not a business. Now, we operate with a clear rate card and customised budgets. Discounts are possible, but never at the expense of value.
What challenges have you faced along the way?
Transitioning from our early days to a more structured, value-driven business wasn't easy. Some old clients struggled to understand, and attracting new clients who valued our direction was a challenge. But God has remained faithful.
How do you plan for clients?
Once a client reaches out, we sit down for a detailed session. Then, I prepare the budget—I always say Excel and I have a strong bond! We negotiate with vendors, finalise agreements, and once the client approves, we ensure every loose end is tied up before the big day.
What keeps you motivated?
Consistency. Especially on social media you can't worry too much about numbers, just keep showing up. Also, I always say I started with just human capital and a laptop. My school father still handles all our branding for free, and that has been a huge blessing.
Finally, what's your approach to building client relationships?
Getting clients is one thing, but getting clients who value your work is another. At Starz Surprises, we believe God brings our clients. Our job is to give our best, and He does the impressing in their hearts. That's the cycle for us: God. Do our best. God.
