The Edo State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting market women and men, acknowledging their vital role in driving economic growth.
Speaking at the inauguration of Edo State Market Leaders at the Festival Hall, Benin City, Governor Monday Okpebholo represented by Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, Coordinator in the Office of the First Lady said the initiative is designed to promote unity, peace, and progress in marketplaces.
"Our vision is to create thriving marketplaces where traders operate in fairness and harmony, while contributing meaningfully to the state's economy," he said, noting that women's empowerment builds stronger families and resilient communities.

Iyaloja General of Nigeria, Chief Mrs. Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, praised the state for prioritizing women traders and described Mrs. Anani as "Motherhood personified." She inaugurated market leaders across local government areas.
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Cyril Adams Oshiomole, highlighted market women's roles as "teachers, caregivers and community builders," pledging better healthcare, market infrastructure, and support for small businesses.
The event featured the installation of Pastor Josephine Ibhaguezejele as Edo State Market Leader alongside "Iye-Ekis" of various markets. The Iyaloja and her delegation also visited Oba Ewuare II at the Benin Palace.
