The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has called on Nigerians at home and abroad to embrace the newly launched Nigeria Payments System Vision 2028, designed to drive digital transformation and expand financial inclusion across the economy.
CBN Governor, Dr. Olayemi Michael Cardoso, made the appeal during the opening of the CBN Fair in Calabar, Cross River State. Speaking through the Assistant Director of Corporate Communications, Mr. Uche Tobias, Cardoso said the Vision 2028 initiative seeks to ensure faster, safer, and more efficient transactions that will strengthen economic activity nationwide.
According to him, the apex bank has introduced several policies to stabilise and modernise Nigeria's financial system, including exchange rate unification, bank recapitalisation, and the non-resident Bank Verification Number (BVN) scheme — aimed at connecting Nigerians in the diaspora to local banking services.
Cardoso noted that the payment vision will position Nigeria's financial ecosystem to compete globally while fostering trust, transparency, and inclusion. "Our goal is to accelerate digital adoption and bring more Nigerians — especially those in rural and underserved communities — into the formal financial system," he said.

In his remarks, Mr. Jobunoh Nwannemeka, CBN Calabar Branch Controller, represented by Mr. Jude Nwafor, said the fair provided a platform for public engagement on CBN's programmes and policies promoting financial literacy and sustainable growth.
The President of the Calabar Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Kelly Ayamba, commended the CBN for championing inclusive finance, stressing that greater awareness will enable more Nigerians to access credit and participate in development initiatives.
Also speaking, Prof. John Ceina, Special Adviser to the Cross River State Governor on Agriculture, expressed the state's readiness to partner with the CBN in boosting agricultural financing and productivity.
The fair featured presentations on the Nigerian payments system, microfinance operations, and foreign exchange management, alongside sensitisation sessions on the importance of keeping the Naira clean as a symbol of national identity and pride.
