As Nigeria marked the International Day of the Girl Child, the Young Communicators Initiative (YCI) unveiled the Vision 2035 AI-Athon — an inter-school summit and speech contest aimed at preparing young girls for leadership in an AI-driven world.
Held in Abuja with the theme "Effective LeadHERship in a Digital Age for National Development," the event brought together students from public and private schools to develop their digital and leadership skills.
Speaking at the summit, representatives from the British High Commission and the British Council Nigeria commended YCI's model for nurturing female leaders early and called for stronger government and private sector collaboration to scale its impact.

YCI Founder, Chinenye Priscilla Anaemena, said the programme seeks to bridge gender gaps in technology and leadership while mentoring participants to design community-based projects. "If we must increase women's representation, we must start with the girl child," she said.
Officials from the Federal Inland Revenue Service and the FCT Secondary Education Board also pledged continued support for girl-focused digital empowerment initiatives, while urging inclusive opportunities for boys as well.
For the young participants, the AI-Athon was more than a contest — it was a call to action to innovate, lead, and redefine the future.
