The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has reaffirmed its commitment to implementing global best practices that will accelerate Nigeria's digital transformation and strengthen public sector governance frameworks.
The agency made this known at the closing ceremony of the 18th International Conference on Theory and Practice of Electronic Governance (ICEGOV 2025), which brought together over 500 participants from 51 countries in Abuja.
According to NITDA's Special Assistant on Innovation and Research, Lukman Lamid, the agency plans to leverage key outcomes from the conference to refine national policy frameworks, expand broadband infrastructure, and strengthen digital public infrastructure.
Lamid noted that Nigeria's digital transformation strategy remains focused on sustainability, inclusion, and measurable impact across government institutions.

He highlighted the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy's plan to deploy a 95,000-kilometre fibre-optic network by 2027 as part of efforts to deepen broadband access and enable innovation-driven growth across the country.
The Director of UNU-EGOV, Delphine Soares, commended Nigeria's increasing participation in global digital governance discussions, describing the country as "a fast-emerging voice in digital policy and research."
Programme Chair for ICEGOV 2025, Professor Kure Sadegu Egaojo, urged the government to adopt research-backed recommendations from the conference to improve digital public services and enhance efficiency across all tiers of governance.
The conference, themed "Shaping the Future of Digital Governance through Cooperation, Innovation, and Inclusion," also recognised outstanding academic and institutional contributions to digital transformation.
Among the awardees was Robert Ifeonu of the Central Bank of Nigeria, whose research on "Micro-Transformation Framework for Public Sector Innovation" was acknowledged for its relevance to governance and innovation in emerging economies.
Through events like ICEGOV, Nigeria continues to position itself as a regional leader in digital transformation, driving reforms that align with global standards while advancing inclusive growth and innovation.
