The Federal Government is set to develop a Diaspora City to encourage Nigerians abroad to invest in the country and reconnect with their heritage, Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy Hannatu Musawa announced on Monday.
Speaking in Abuja during the unveiling of the Motherland 2025 initiative, Musawa emphasized that the government is not just focused on reimagining tourism but also on creating platforms for economic growth, cultural exchange, and community development.
"Our vision extends beyond attracting global visitors; it is about ensuring that the creative and tourism sectors serve as critical tools to improve the lives of the Nigerian people," she said.
She described Motherland 2025 as more than a festival, calling it an initiative to reaffirm Nigeria's position as a global hub for Black and African culture, commerce, and community.
> "This year, we open our doors to the global diaspora, inviting them to immerse themselves in our rich traditions, explore investment opportunities, and witness the remarkable transformation unfolding across our nation," Musawa said.
According to the minister, the festival will feature state pavilions, exhibitions, and cultural showcases, highlighting the diversity, creativity, and economic potential of Nigeria's 36 states and the FCT. The event will also include the Motherland Ambassador Awards, which will recognize outstanding diaspora members making significant contributions in their respective fields.

Beyond the festival, the government is taking a long-term approach by developing Diaspora City, a tourism and investment hub designed to provide a seamless platform for members of the Nigerian diaspora to invest, reconnect, and establish roots in the country.
Also speaking at the event, Chidinma Nwakwo, Managing Director of Discover Motherland Africa, described the initiative as a transformative movement that reconnects Nigerians in the diaspora with their roots, unlocks investment opportunities, and fosters cultural pride.
The Motherland 2025 initiative aligns with the government's broader efforts to position Nigeria as a prime destination for cultural tourism, economic collaboration, and diaspora engagement.
