The Lagos State government has secured over $1.2 billion in digital investments over the past five years to strengthen its digital economy and expand telecom infrastructure, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has revealed.
The governor made this known on Friday during a courtesy visit by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) delegation, led by its Executive Vice Chairman and CEO, Aminu Maida, at the Lagos House, Ikeja.
Strategic Investments in Digital Expansion
Sanwo-Olu highlighted that the investments have been channeled into data centers, hyper-scale data centers, submarine cables, and digital network expansion to enhance connectivity and technological advancement in Lagos.
"We have it on record that within five years of our administration, we have attracted investments in excess of about $1.2 billion directly into the digital space, building data centres, landing submarine cables, and creating a network of users and providers," he said.

Enhancing Digital Infrastructure Through NCC Partnership
Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the collaboration aligns with the Education and Technology pillar of his administration's THEMES+ agenda, which prioritizes technological development to drive economic growth.
He assured that Lagos would continue working closely with NCC to protect critical telecom infrastructure, address challenges like Right of Way (RoW) regulations, and advance the state's digital economy for residents' benefit.
NCC Commends Lagos' Digital Development
The Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of NCC, Aminu Maida, commended Sanwo-Olu's administration for its proactive approach to telecom and digital infrastructure development.
Maida described Lagos as a key partner in ensuring digital infrastructure protection and facilitating seamless telecom operations.
"Lagos is a strategic partner with NCC, hence the need for collaboration to protect digital infrastructure, address Right of Way (RoW) challenges, and ensure adequate notifications during road construction and rehabilitation," Maida stated.
He also referenced President Bola Tinubu's Executive Order signed in July 2024, aimed at protecting key infrastructure nationwide, urging sustained efforts in safeguarding Nigeria's digital assets.
Lagos' ongoing investments in digital technology reinforce its position as Nigeria's leading tech hub, paving the way for economic growth, innovation, and improved connectivity across the state.
