Vice President Kashim Shettima has said the Federal Government is building digital infrastructure to help Nigerian MSMEs tap into the African market under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Speaking at the launch of the Oversight Committee for Nigeria's hosting of the 4th AU MSME Forum, Shettima noted that over 83% of Africa's jobs are in the informal sector, and digital innovation is key to unlocking growth.
He highlighted Nigeria's reforms, including the Technology Export and Digital Trade Desk, the $617.7m i-DICE programme, and the 3 Million Tech Talent initiative, as part of efforts to prepare small businesses for cross-border digital trade.

The Vice President said the AU forum will serve as a platform to strengthen MSMEs through innovation, financing, and market access. Government officials, state representatives, and heads of agencies like BOI and SMEDAN pledged support for the forum, set for June 23 in Abuja.
Lagos and several other states are also contributing to planning the event, which is expected to benefit MSMEs nationwide by improving access to finance, digital tools, and export opportunities.
