The NNPC Foundation has launched a three-day agricultural training programme to empower 1,000 vulnerable farmers across Nigeria's south-west.
The initiative, which began Monday in Oyo State, is focused on modern, climate-resilient farming techniques to boost food security and transition farmers from subsistence to commercial-scale production.
Emmanuella Arukwe, Managing Director of NNPC Foundation, said the programme is a strategic response to climate change, supply chain disruptions, and economic instability.
Represented by Bala David, she emphasised the need to unlock opportunities trapped in low-yield farming due to poor access to modern techniques.
Oyo State Commissioner for Agriculture, Olasunkanmi Olaleye, represented by Olusegun Ezekiel, lauded the programme but noted that the state ministry wasn't fully involved in its planning.

He called for better collaboration with state institutions to align with local agricultural goals and avoid duplication.
This south-west training is part of a broader initiative launched in April to train 6,000 farmers nationwide.
The first phase has covered the southern zones, with the north-central, north-west, and north-east scheduled for the second phase.
