To tackle Nigeria's mining sector skills gap, eleven Nigerian professionals are undergoing intensive training at Murdoch University, Australia. The initiative is supported by the Australian Government and the Australian High Commission in Nigeria.
Nigeria's Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr Dele Alake, revealed this in a statement on Sunday.
He said the two-week pilot training, launched in collaboration with Murdoch University, focuses on extractive metallurgy, sustainable geochemistry, and mineral science research.
Participants will also embark on field trips and engage with industry experts to gain insight into global mining trends, investment prospects, and sustainability challenges.

Dr Alake hailed the programme as a milestone achievement born from a vision initiated less than two years ago. He praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Australian High Commissioner Leilani Bin-Juda for their support.
"This partnership strengthens bilateral ties and lays the foundation for mutual growth in the mining sector," he said, urging participants to be exemplary ambassadors and use their training to boost Nigeria's technical capabilities.
The programme follows a bilateral agreement signed in 2023 at the Africa Down Under Conference in Perth, Australia, involving the Government of Western Australia and Murdoch University.
