The Edo State Government has secured a strategic partnership with the German Embassy aimed at strengthening food production, expanding large-scale agricultural processing, and unlocking new investment streams for agribusiness in the state.
The partnership was formalized following a high-level bilateral meeting in Benin City between the Special Adviser on Agriculture and Food Security to Governor Monday Okpebholo, Mr. Golden Ugbodu, and the Deputy Head of Mission of the German Embassy, Johannes Lehne.
According to Ugbodu, the initiative is a key component of Governor Okpebholo's broader five-point agenda focused on food security, sustainable agriculture, and inclusive economic growth. "We plan to leverage Germany's industrial expertise, particularly in mechanized farming and agricultural processing technologies," he said.
For small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and local entrepreneurs, the partnership signals increased access to technical support, investment opportunities, and value-chain development across farming, processing, and export.
"German investors are showing growing interest in Edo's agribusiness landscape, and we aim to create the right environment for them to partner with local businesses," Ugbodu added.
