In a major push to strengthen agribusiness and boost food production, the Kano State Government has launched the distribution of 79,200 bags of fertiliser to farmers across its 44 local government areas.
The initiative, flagged off by Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf at the Al-Yuma Fertiliser Plant in Madobi LGA, is designed to reduce input costs for farmers by subsidising fertiliser by 50%. Each LGA is receiving three truckloads of fertiliser (1,800 bags), aimed at supporting wet season farming and enhancing rural productivity.

Governor Yusuf emphasized that the programme is not only about distributing fertiliser but about "planting seeds of self-reliance and economic prosperity" for Kano's farming communities.
Over the past two years, his administration has expanded access to farmland, upgraded irrigation schemes, and launched new agricultural projects across 11 LGAs—bringing over 1,250 hectares under active cultivation.
He also revealed ongoing work on the Dansoshiya Dam in Kiru LGA, a key infrastructure expected to enable year-round farming and further energise local agribusiness.
The governor expressed optimism that these efforts will stimulate economic growth, strengthen food security, and open up new opportunities for smallholder farmers and agribusiness investors across the state.
