Diageo Nigeria, in collaboration with the Lagos State Government, is equipping 500 young Nigerians with free vocational training through its "Learning for Life" programme. This initiative, aimed at reducing youth unemployment and building a skilled workforce, focuses on developing talent for the hospitality industry—a key driver of small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
The programme is backed by a Memorandum of Understanding signed between Diageo's Managing Director, Bayo Ali, and the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), represented by Director of Programmes, Oyindamola Egbeyemi. Commissioner for Wealth Creation, Akinyemi Ajigbotafe, who stood in for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, praised the initiative and confirmed the expansion of participants from 250 to 500.

Learning for Life blends classroom instruction with real-world experience. Participants undergo one week of intensive training, followed by an 11-week internship, gaining hands-on exposure. The curriculum includes key hospitality skills like customer service, bar operations, budgeting, teamwork, communication, CV writing, and workplace readiness. It also emphasizes inclusion, covering gender sensitivity, disability awareness, and workplace harassment prevention.
By building skills that align with the demands of SMEs in hospitality, the programme not only prepares youths for immediate employment but also enhances their potential to start or support small businesses in the sector.
