In a strategic boost for Nigeria's livestock sector, the World Bank's Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) has secured funding and technical support from the Israeli government to enhance pasture development nationwide.
At a workshop in Abuja, L-PRES Task Team Leader, Dr. Chidozie Anyiniro, announced that Israel will provide innovative technologies to improve forage production—especially in Nigeria's arid zones. He emphasized that irrigation systems and climate-smart innovations will help farmers grow nutritious pasture, reduce reliance on natural grazing, and unlock agribusiness potential.
Sanusi Abubakar, National Coordinator for L-PRES, highlighted pasture and water scarcity as key triggers of farmer-herder conflicts. With support from Israel, Brazil, and the Netherlands, L-PRES is introducing proven pasture models in 20 Nigerian states.

Meanwhile, L-PRES launched a three-day conflict resolution workshop in Ondo State for 116 stakeholders. Ondo L-PRES Coordinator, Olufemi Adeogun, said the training promotes peace and strengthens livestock value chains.
Experts say this initiative could drive agricultural innovation, rural jobs, and commercial livestock ventures—especially for small agribusinesses looking to scale.
