The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Federal Operations Unit Zone 'A', Ikeja, has intercepted prohibited goods valued at over ₦1.18 billion within six weeks and arrested four suspects in connection with the seizures.
Comptroller Mohammed Shuaibu said the operations, conducted across Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, and Lagos states, were intelligence-driven to safeguard Nigeria's economy and protect legitimate businesses, including SMEs, from unfair trade practices.
The seized items included 5,015 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 15 used vehicles, 640 parcels of cannabis, 143 bales of used clothing, and 390 bottles of codeine, among others. The NCS also recovered ₦39.27 million in revenue from import duty shortfalls.

Shuaibu reaffirmed the Service's commitment to inter-agency cooperation, adding that seized drugs and cannabis would be handed over to NAFDAC and NDLEA.
Meanwhile, the NCS announced October 9 as the date for its main online recruitment examination for the Inspectorate and Customs Assistant cadres. Candidates are to log in via the official Customs portal to check their batch and schedule.
According to the Service, the digital recruitment drive is part of its broader technology-driven reform agenda aimed at enhancing transparency, efficiency, and accountability in public service.
