The Akwa Ibom State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to maritime growth by prioritizing the Ibom Deep Seaport and related infrastructure.
Commissioner for Special Duties and Ibom Deep Seaport, Ini Ememobong, made this known while hosting the Akwa Ibom Oil and Gas Professionals in Uyo.
Ememobong highlighted the recent commissioning of the Surge Protections project in Oron as proof of Governor Umo Eno's dedication to maritime development.
He emphasized the Ibom Deep Seaport's strategic role in industrialization and called for collaboration between the government and maritime professionals to ensure sustainable growth.

"The industrial city envisioned by His Excellency will boost indigenous participation, aligning with the local content law to prioritize local workforce and resources," he stated.
However, he stressed that local businesses must build capacity to seize these opportunities, prompting the government's investment in skills development.
Captain Sunday Umoren, Secretary-General of Port State Control for the West and Central African Region, pledged support for capacity building, warning that Akwa Ibom must strategically position itself to maximize the deep seaport's economic benefits.
The technical committee, led by Mrs. Mfon Usoro, is actively working with stakeholders to make the Ibom Deep Seaport a reality.
