As part of efforts to strengthen local economies and improve access to markets and essential services, Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has launched a major infrastructure initiative in Maiduguri, flagging off the construction of a 7.1-kilometre dual carriageway from the Terminus Junction to Molai, along with a six-span bridge and the state's fourth flyover at Post Office area.
The project, which comes with a ₦16 billion price tag, is expected to be completed within 8 to 10 months and will create hundreds of jobs for both skilled and unskilled workers. Governor Zulum noted that the road is part of his administration's urban renewal programme aimed at accommodating the city's growing population and easing transportation for commuters and traders alike.
"This is more than beautification. It is about meeting the needs of our growing population, supporting commerce, and expanding the city to attract more investment," Zulum said at the flag-off.

The governor emphasized timely delivery, stating that 50% of the project cost has already been paid, with the remaining funds secured for completion.
In addition to the road project, Zulum announced five new key developments, including:
- A new modern market
- An orthopaedic hospital
- A general hospital
- An international hotel
- A western bypass
He assured residents that these projects would be completed before the end of his administration, stressing their role in supporting local trade, improving healthcare access, and boosting the state's economic resilience.
Meanwhile, the governor addressed the ongoing water shortage in Maiduguri, attributing it to flood-related damages sustained last year. He appealed for public patience, assuring that repairs were underway and that the state is working urgently to restore supply.
