In a move that could stimulate micro and small business growth across Akwa Ibom, the state government has disbursed ₦75,000 each to over 27,000 residents under a Conditional Cash Transfer programme aimed at poverty alleviation and grassroots empowerment.
According to Meflyn Anwana, Special Assistant to the Governor on Entrepreneurship Development, the initiative is designed not just as relief, but as a strategic investment to enable individuals—particularly market women, artisans, and small-scale entrepreneurs—to rebuild or start income-generating ventures.
She noted that the programme aligns with the Federal Government's Renewed Hope Agenda and is fully supported by Governor Umo Eno's ARISE Agenda, which prioritizes economic inclusion and entrepreneurship at the community level.

In addition to the cash transfer, Anwana highlighted that over 477,000 households have benefitted from the state's food distribution programme, reinforcing the administration's commitment to restoring dignity and enabling long-term economic participation for the underserved.
For SMEs, this injection of funds into the informal economy is expected to drive local demand, create microenterprise opportunities, and support a more resilient business environment at the grassroots.
