The Kaduna State Government has unveiled a large-scale agricultural intervention to distribute 400 trucks of fertiliser free of charge to 100,000 smallholder farmers across the state. This initiative, announced by the Commissioner for Agriculture, Murtala Dabo, aims to improve food security, support rural livelihoods, and reduce farming costs.
Key highlights of the programme include:
Initial distribution of 300 trucks, scaling up to 400 trucks to potentially reach 400,000 farmers in all 23 LGAs.
Kaduna is currently the only Nigerian state offering fertiliser free to smallholder farmers.
A multi-stakeholder monitoring committee (including religious leaders, CSOs, labour unions, LG officials, and security agencies) has been set up to ensure equity and transparency in the distribution process.
