In a fresh push to boost staff welfare and drive professional growth across Nigeria's higher institutions, the Federal Government has launched a ₦10 million loan scheme for staff of universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
The initiative, called the Tertiary Institution Staff Support Fund (TISSF), was unveiled in Abuja during a stakeholder meeting led by the Ministry of Education.
Under the scheme, each eligible academic or non-academic staff member can access a loan of up to ₦10 million, capped at 33.3% of their gross annual salary, to support personal development, capacity building, or financial needs.
The Ministry said the program is part of broader efforts to improve livelihoods and retain top talent in the education sector.
The launch follows the Federal Government's announcement of a record ₦3.52 trillion allocation to education in the 2025 budget—a 61% increase from last year—under President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda.
At the 54th Convocation Ceremony of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), President Tinubu emphasized the need for transformative policies in education to drive innovation, job creation, and inclusive growth.
Education stakeholders say the TISSF loan could ease financial pressure on staff, open access to training, and increase productivity across campuses.
