In a major stride for Nigeria's infrastructure sector, the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) has commissioned modern equipment funded through a grant from Marubeni Corporation of Japan. The move is expected to significantly enhance FERMA's ability to provide swift, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly road maintenance nationwide.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Officer of FERMA described the commissioning as a milestone achievement that began with discussions eight years ago. He praised the agency's successful implementation of the project and emphasized the importance of continued partnerships for technical training and long-term development.
"This donation reflects the strength of Japan's friendship with Nigeria," said Mr. Hideo, a representative of the Japanese delegation. "We are proud to support projects that promote sustainable infrastructure and economic growth."
The event drew dignitaries from the National Assembly, Federal Ministry of Works, professional bodies, and diplomatic community. Key attendees included Nigerian Society of Engineers President Margaret Aina, and former FERMA heads Nuruddeen Rafindadi and G.C. Amuchi, both honored for their past leadership.
For SMEs in the construction and engineering sectors, the upgraded FERMA capacity signals improved project timelines and potential new opportunities in road infrastructure contracts.
