Borno State has launched a new strategy to strengthen technical and vocational education across its three senatorial zones, aiming to bridge the gap between graduates and industry demands.
Governor Babagana Zulum announced the initiative on Monday while receiving a report on repositioning technical and vocational education in the state. He stressed that the plan is designed to empower youth with hands-on skills that will fuel entrepreneurship, boost employment, and stimulate SME-led economic growth.
"The mismatch between our graduates and the labour market is deep. To address this, we must ensure a robust technical and vocational education system is established," Zulum said.

As part of the plan, vocational programmes will be tailored to meet industry needs, while the Ministry of Education has also been directed to explore introducing technical and vocational training into Sangaya (Almajiri) schools.
Stakeholders say the initiative could help build a strong talent pipeline for small businesses, improve productivity, and strengthen Borno's position in the national economy.
