Imam Abdul-Azeez Onike, NASFAT's Chief Missioner, made the appeal following Vice President Kashim Shettima's directive to disburse ₦250 billion in credit support to smallholder farmers at a single-digit interest rate through the Presidential Food Systems Coordinating Unit (PFSCU). Read also: While commending the initiative, Onike stressed that both Islam and Christianity disapprove of interest-based loans, which he described as exploitative and harmful to social and economic harmony. He urged the government to engage religious leaders in shaping alternatives such as interest-free financing models that align with ethical values.
