The Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa, has highlighted Nigeria's growing influence in Artificial Intelligence during the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Inuwa made the remarks at the Forward African Leaders Symposium organised by the African Peer Review Mechanism, where African heads of state, policymakers, industry experts, and innovators gathered to explore ways to advance the continent's digital transformation.
The symposium focused on strengthening digital identity and sovereignty, encouraging African nations to take ownership of emerging technologies. Inuwa underscored Nigeria's commitment to this agenda by showcasing the country's landmark achievement in AI development.

He unveiled N-ATLAS, a multimodal, multilingual Large Language Model (LLM) designed to support Nigerian languages and drive inclusive digital growth. According to him, Africa must move beyond being a passive consumer of technology to becoming an active creator and shaper of global tech solutions.
NITDA further amplified the message by sharing highlights of Inuwa's engagement on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, reaffirming Nigeria's resolve to lead Africa's push for technological independence and innovation.
