The African Digital Economy & Inclusivity Conference (AFDEIC 2025) will take place in Abuja, Nigeria, from August 12 to 14, bringing together innovators and leaders to reshape Africa's digital future. Under the theme "ai and africa's digital economy: leaving no one behind," the event will serve as a forum for advancing Africa's growing digital economy, which is expected to contribute $180 billion to the continent's GDP by 2025, and reach over $700 billion by 2050.
As Africa continues to make strides in fintech, e-commerce, and AI, significant challenges remain, particularly the digital exclusion and infrastructure gaps affecting rural communities. A 2022 report by the International Telecommunications Union highlighted that 73 percent of rural Africans still lack internet access, which hinders their ability to participate in digital services like financial inclusion, education, and healthcare. Despite government-led initiatives, like Nigeria's National Digital Economy Policy, rural connectivity remains a barrier.
AFDEIC 2025 will go beyond discussing trends, focusing on creating solutions for digital transformation that leave no one behind. Key topics will include financial inclusion, AI integration, cybersecurity, and the role of infrastructure in bridging the digital divide. The conference will also explore how AI and big data can boost productivity in sectors such as agriculture and healthcare, and expand opportunities for women and youth in the digital workforce.
Adedayo Oketola, Team Lead of the AFDEIC Organizing Committee, emphasized that while AI holds potential for transformative change, it must be implemented responsibly to avoid widening existing disparities. The conference aims to foster partnerships, attract investment, and push for inclusive digital policies.

Cybersecurity will be another critical focus, as Africa's digital footprint grows, bringing increased risks of cyberattacks and data breaches. Oketola highlighted the need for strong cybersecurity frameworks, talent development, and digital safety awareness.
AFDEIC 2025 will feature keynote sessions, panel discussions, and workshops on AI ethics, blockchain, and cross-border digital identity systems. An innovation exhibition will showcase cutting-edge solutions from startups and global tech companies, while a networking segment will connect startups with investors and development agencies.
Adetoun Tade, Marketing Lead for AFDEIC, noted that the event provides a unique opportunity to stay ahead in a rapidly changing digital landscape. She encouraged businesses, development organizations, and public institutions to participate as sponsors, exhibitors, and partners.
With its focus on inclusivity, innovation, and infrastructure, AFDEIC 2025 aims to be a defining event in Africa's digital journey, where actionable solutions are discussed and Africa's digital future is shaped for all.
