In a strategic move to revolutionize Nigeria's food system and empower agro-based small and medium enterprises (SMEs), Propcom in partnership with HarvestPlus has announced the widespread rollout of nutrient-rich cereal seeds across the country.
Dr. Adiya Ode, Country Representative for Propcom, emphasized the role of accessibility in ensuring the success of this agricultural innovation. "We will be working closely with HarvestPlus to ensure that these seeds are commercially available and accessible to farmers.
We are collaborating with seed companies to reproduce and multiply the seeds locally, ensuring farmers can easily obtain them without extra costs or needing to travel long distances," she stated.

This initiative is a major win for Nigeria's agribusiness sector, particularly for SMEs operating in crop production, seed distribution, and agri-processing.
By promoting the adoption of biofortified cereals, the program aims to improve nutritional outcomes, increase yields, and stimulate local seed markets.
As these fortified varieties begin to enter the value chain, stakeholders are optimistic that it will enhance food security, reduce dependency on imports, and generate economic opportunities for rural entrepreneurs.
