Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) have been urged to embrace sustainable waste management practices in response to Nigeria's improving economic landscape.
At an industry dialogue in Lagos, Mr. Adefemi Afolabi, General Manager, Lagos State Wastewater Management, stressed that sewage remains a major component of industrial waste and called on SMEs to comply with environmental laws to protect public health.
"We are concerned about waste generated by industries and will continue engaging business associations on proper disposal methods," Afolabi said, highlighting the health risks of poor sanitation.

Meanwhile, the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) reiterated its commitment to supporting government policies that boost local production. "We will ensure the government remains attentive to the manufacturing sector," a MAN representative said.
Chairman of MAN Ikeja Branch, Mr. Robert Ugbaja, encouraged SMEs to view sustainability not just as a trend but as a business imperative. "Sustainability is now a call to action for all manufacturers to align with global standards and ensure long-term competitiveness," he noted.
