The Federal Executive Council has approved a new policy called the Renewed Hope Nigeria First Policy to make Nigerian-made goods the top choice in all government spending.
Announced by Information Minister Mohammed Idris, the policy will soon be backed by an executive order and focuses on reducing imports by promoting local businesses.
Under this policy, the Bureau of Public Procurement will change its rules to prioritise Nigerian manufacturers and service providers. No foreign goods will be bought for government use if they can be made locally, unless there's a strong reason.

A list of trusted Nigerian suppliers will be created, and procurement officers will be closely monitored. Any government agency that ignores these rules may face contract cancellation or other penalties.
The goal is to create more jobs, support local industries, and make Nigeria less dependent on foreign products. Legal backing for this policy is being prepared by the Attorney General.
The government sees this move as a major step toward growing local industry and increasing national pride.
