The Plateau State Government has launched a major youth-focused agricultural drive to cultivate 7,000 hectares of farmland by 2027, creating up to 20,000 opportunities in the agribusiness sector.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang, represented by Youth and Sports Commissioner Musa Ibrahim Ashoms, unveiled the plan during the 2025 International Youth Day celebration in Jos.
The initiative will see 2,500 hectares cultivated in 2026 and 3,500 hectares in 2027, with a focus on mechanisation and expanding operations to the Central and Southern zones.

The programme aligns with key Sustainable Development Goals, including poverty eradication, food security, and decent work. Ashoms urged young people to prepare themselves, stressing unity and collaboration for ventures like milling businesses.
In addition, the state announced ₦10 million seed capital for the Plateau Youth Council, sponsorship of 20 youths for leadership training, and the adoption of AI tools to boost innovation.
Special Adviser on Youth Development Hitler Joshua Pwajok said the Back-to-Farm initiative has already cultivated over 1,000 hectares this year, with expansion plans to empower thousands more youths while increasing their role in governance.
