The relief exercise reached 150 households in Afghanistan, Makarahuta, and Filin Nashe, providing hygiene kits alongside a house-to-house awareness campaign to help families adopt healthier practices and reduce the risk of disease outbreaks — a key factor in restoring normal business activity in the communities. Read also, Executive Secretary of SEMA, Dr. Goje Mohammed, commended development partners for aligning with the state government's wider support programme, which includes cash transfers, non-food items, shelter kits, and dignity kits. These measures are helping affected families stabilise, thereby reducing pressure on local traders, artisans, and small-scale entrepreneurs whose businesses were disrupted by the flooding. Stakeholders say the intervention not only addresses immediate humanitarian needs but also strengthens the resilience of small businesses, which play a crucial role in sustaining local economies. By restoring household stability, SMEs in Potiskum's informal markets are expected to bounce back faster, keeping livelihoods and community trade alive. | | | |
