The United Kingdom has praised the bold and positive economic and trade initiatives being implemented by Nigerian President Bola Tinubu. British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery, made these remarks during a courtesy visit to Nigeria's First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, at the State House in Abuja.
Montgomery expressed optimism about Nigeria's economy, highlighting the new opportunities created by the difficult but necessary reforms President Tinubu has introduced. He also commended the Renewed Hope Initiative, a project led by the First Lady that focuses on empowering women through education, health, and humanitarian support.
The British High Commissioner noted that these reforms have strengthened trade relations between Nigeria and the UK. He also expressed support for Nigeria's ongoing constitutional amendment process, particularly the call to reserve special seats for women in the National Assembly.

In response, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu assured that the government and the Renewed Hope Initiative, aligned with President Tinubu's broader agenda, remain committed to tackling Nigeria's challenges. She emphasized the initiative's focus on empowering women in the informal sector, whose lives are directly impacted by these efforts.
Mrs. Tinubu agreed on the need to increase women's representation in the National Assembly and pledged to support measures aimed at improving their numbers. She also highlighted the importance of educating Nigerian women on selecting capable representatives to ensure effective governance.
