Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Bashiru Gegu, disclosed this at the grand finale of the 2025 NUJ Press Week themed "Kogi State Solid Minerals: How Journalists Can Drive Development." He noted that Governor Usman Ododo increased the state's mineral titles from 15 to 30, backed by new mining equipment to compete with major operators. Read also: Gegu said Kogi is rich in iron ore, limestone, coal, gold, and tantalite, stressing that the sector's development will drive industrialisation and reduce dependence on oil. He urged journalists to promote responsible mining through investigative reporting and policy advocacy. Guest speaker Dr. Tope Joel called for a dedicated solid mineral development company to regulate activities, while NUJ Chairman Ademu Seidu praised the Ododo administration for creating a peaceful environment for the media and appealed for more government support for the union. | | | |
