African SMEs took centre stage at the 21st Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme Partnership Platform (CAADP PP) and the 16th Africa Day for Food and Nutrition Security (ADFNS) held in Kigali, Rwanda.
The forum gathered ministers, development partners, farmers, and agribusiness stakeholders to strengthen the role of small enterprises in building a food-secure and resilient Africa.
Under the theme "From Malabo to Kampala: Accelerating Just, Resilient Agrifood Systems for Nutrition and Sustainable Growth," discussions focused on supporting SMEs as engines of innovation, trade, and inclusive agricultural growth.

Participants explored strategies to expand market access, improve financing for agribusinesses, and empower women and youth-led enterprises to scale across the continent. The 2026–2035 CAADP Strategy and Action Plan was highlighted as a key framework for creating sustainable opportunities within Africa's food value chain.
The Kigali meeting underscored that Africa's path to food security and economic transformation depends on empowering SMEs — the backbone of its agricultural economy to thrive, innovate, and feed the continent sustainably.
