The Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy has partnered with the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) to enhance fish production and close Nigeria's 2.2 million metric tonnes supply deficit through a coordinated policy roadmap.
At a two-day roundtable in Lagos, Minister Adegboyega Oyetola said the collaboration aligns with President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda focused on food security, job creation, and economic diversification. The initiative, he noted, will support MSMEs in fisheries and aquaculture by driving investment, innovation, and sustainability across the value chain.

According to his media adviser, Dr. Bolaji Akinola, the roundtable will produce a National Fish Production Acceleration Roadmap to guide reforms, strengthen governance, and expand opportunities for small-scale fish farmers and entrepreneurs. New legal frameworks, including the Fisheries Bill and the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Policy, are also underway to ensure long-term sector growth.
NIPSS Director-General, Professor Ayo Omotayo, reaffirmed the institute's support for evidence-based policies that will help Nigeria achieve fish self-sufficiency while empowering coastal communities and MSMEs through improved access to markets, finance, and sustainable production systems.
