The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has inaugurated the Ikwerre District Society in Rivers State, pledging to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with accounting and tax advisory services.
Silas Igwe, the pioneer chairman of the new district, made this commitment following his inauguration by ICAN President Davidson Alaribe in Port Harcourt.
He announced plans to create a platform for continuous engagement with SMEs, offering financial guidance and capacity-building programs.
"We shall provide accounting and tax advisory services and train SME staff to enhance their technical competencies," Igwe stated.

Beyond SME support, Igwe emphasized professional development for district members, promising technical training, stakeholder collaborations, and job placement initiatives for unemployed or underemployed accountants.
Reaffirming ICAN's 'Catch Them Young' programme, he vowed to promote accountancy careers among secondary school students.
ICAN President Alaribe encouraged synergy among Rivers districts, emphasizing collective efforts to advance the profession in the state. The event was attended by dignitaries, including former Rivers governor Celestine Omehia and traditional leader Eze Mike Elechi.
