The Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) has sealed a UGX 5.5 billion ($1.4 million) partnership with Trade Mark Africa (TMA) to enhance the standardization of agro-industrial products by Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
The 12-month agreement aims to improve Uganda's export potential by helping MSMEs meet regional and international market requirements.
Under the deal, UNBS will procure and install Mobile Quality Assurance Testing Equipment at key border points, enhance accreditation services, and conduct compliance training for businesses.

TMA Country Director Anna Nambooze emphasized the critical role of MSMEs in Uganda's economy, citing gaps in supportive systems for business growth.
UNBS Executive Director Eng. James Kasigwa highlighted the initiative as a key step in Uganda's industrialization and export expansion, aligning with the country's ambition to grow its economy to $500 billion by 2040.
The deal will also fund training in Global GAP certification, food safety, and personnel certification while driving awareness campaigns to educate MSMEs on quality standards.
