To curb Nigeria's annual N3.5 trillion food losses, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the Plateau State Government have partnered to build a food cargo hub at Yakubu Gowon Airport, Jos.
The initiative aims to transform the airport into an international cargo hub, linking local farmers to global markets.
Under the deal, Plateau State will finance infrastructure upgrades, while FAAN provides technical support, security, and project oversight.
At the MoU signing in Lagos, Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, described the move as a turning point for Nigeria's agricultural exports. "We're not just upgrading an airport we're upgrading dreams," he said, highlighting the state's agricultural abundance and untapped export potential.

FAAN MD/CEO Olubunmi Kuku called the partnership a model for driving Nigeria towards a $1 trillion economy by 2030. Planned developments include a cargo terminal, cold rooms, runway and apron expansions, warehouses, X-ray machines, and surveillance systems.
With FAAN's expertise and Plateau's resources, the hub is expected to reduce food spoilage, create jobs, and boost economic growth by opening new export channels for Nigerian farmers.
