Katsina State has launched a N100 million Climate-Smart Agribusiness Empowerment Scheme to support smallholder farmers with tools, training, and market access.
The initiative, flagged off by Governor Dikko Umar Radda in partnership with AUDA-NEPAD, is co-funded with N63.75 million from NEPAD and N36.25 million from the state government.
The programme aims to transition farmers from subsistence to commercial agriculture using climate-resilient practices. It offers access to improved seeds, modern equipment, technical support, and solar-powered irrigation.

"This is an investment in our people and economy," Governor Radda said, urging extension workers to ensure resources are effectively used through close monitoring.
AUDA-NEPAD's National Coordinator, Salisu Jabiru Tsauri, described the project as a step toward achieving the African Union's Agenda 2063. He highlighted Katsina's broader agricultural efforts, including the repair of critical dams and procurement of over 20,000 metric tons of fertiliser.
Maryam Sodangi, SSA to the Governor on SDGs, noted the scheme supports long-term food security and climate resilience.
By empowering grassroots farmers, the scheme is expected to boost local incomes, improve productivity, and build a stronger agribusiness ecosystem across the state.
