Grammy-winning Nigerian artist and producer, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has unveiled the Leading Vibe Initiative, a new empowerment platform designed to support and uplift women in Africa's music ecosystem.
Set to launch in Lagos on August 8 and 9, the initiative is currently accepting applications from Nigerian female artists, producers, and songwriters aged 18 to 35, with the deadline for entries on July 13.
Tems revealed that her personal journey as a self-taught woman navigating a male-dominated industry served as the inspiration behind the project.
"My goal with the Leading Vibe Initiative is to help discover and support talented young women who have the potential to redefine the industry," she said in a statement.

Described as both a movement and a sanctuary, the initiative will provide mentorship, professional training, production resources, and access to career-shaping opportunities. Participants will also collaborate with seasoned artists and industry leaders from around the globe.
The initiative aims to address the stark gender imbalance in music. According to industry data shared in the announcement, women make up only 22% of global recording artists, while female producers and songwriters represent just 3% and 12.8%, respectively.
"We're creating space for them to find their voices, step into their power, and shape the future of music across the continent and globally," Tems added.
The Lagos debut event will serve as the programme's launchpad, with plans to expand to other African and international cities in the coming months.
