The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), in collaboration with the Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprises–Niger Delta (LIFE-ND), is intensifying efforts to transform agriculture into a thriving sector for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the region.
As part of this drive, both organizations conducted an inspection of agricultural incubation centers in Akwa Ibom, Imo, and Rivers States. The goal was to assess the impact of their ongoing programme that empowers rural youth and women with agribusiness training, especially in poultry and aquaculture.
Led by NDDC's Director of Agriculture and Fisheries, Dr. Winifred Madume, the team reviewed how the program is equipping budding agripreneurs with technical skills, access to funding, and practical exposure. Madume reaffirmed NDDC's commitment to co-funding the initiative and driving inclusive rural economic transformation through agriculture.

The LIFE-ND initiative—backed by the Federal Government, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and participating states—targets the development of sustainable agri-SMEs. It focuses on creating viable pathways for youth and women to start and scale agribusinesses, thereby strengthening the local economy and promoting food security.
Special Assistant to the NDDC Managing Director, Mr. Abi Morris, described the program as "development in action," highlighting how it is changing lives and building business-ready agricultural entrepreneurs.
Beneficiaries praised the initiative for giving them the tools, training, and startup capital to run their own agro-enterprises. For MSMEs in the region, this program not only opens up new business opportunities but also aligns with broader national efforts to develop agriculture as a cornerstone of Nigeria's economy.
