The intervention s… | By Abimbola Akomolafe on September 30, 2025 | Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has rolled out a relief programme for smallholder farmers and households in Dikwa after quelea birds and pests wiped out farmlands that serve as the community's main source of livelihood. The intervention supported 18,000 households with two bags of rice and sorghum each. In addition, 35,000 women received N10,000 cash, a wrapper, and food supplies—amounting to more than N350 million in direct support. Read also, Governor Zulum said the move was necessary to avert a food crisis, while also reaffirming plans to strengthen agriculture through pest control and support systems that protect farmers' output. The relief package is expected to ease the burden on families, protect rural businesses, and keep farming communities resilient despite recent setbacks. | | | |
