The Federal Government has announced a partnership with the International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC) to make fertilizer more affordable and accessible for Nigerian farmers, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises in agriculture.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, disclosed this during a meeting with IFDC officials at the Africa Food System Forum in Dakar, Senegal. He said the initiative will expand local blending capacity, curb adulteration, and support data-driven fertilizer use under the Nigeria Farmers' Soil Health Scheme.

The scheme will provide crop and location-specific fertilizer recommendations for farmers while ensuring timely delivery of quality inputs. According to Kyari, affordability, last-mile distribution, and food security remain top priorities under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's agricultural agenda.
IFDC President and CEO, Henk van Duijn, noted that the partnership will also support soil testing, balanced nutrient use, farmer training, and policies that enable competitive markets. A Technical Committee will be set up to work out details of the collaboration.
