Ogun State's hosting of the 22nd National Sports Festival—Gateway Games 2024—is set to unlock major opportunities for small businesses across sectors like hospitality, logistics, food service, and merchandising.
The National Sports Commission (NSC), following a comprehensive facility inspection, has affirmed the state's readiness to deliver what it calls the most ambitious edition yet. The event, running from May 16 to 30, will welcome thousands of athletes and officials from across Nigeria.
NSC Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko, impressed by Ogun's preparations, said the festival reflects more than infrastructure. "It is intent, readiness, and ambition," he noted, adding that the event could redefine future sporting standards.

Governor Dapo Abiodun assured that Ogun is fully prepared to host the event and leverage it to showcase the state's economic potential. "Every facility, every logistic, every detail has been prepared to highlight the best of Ogun," he said.
With competitions across more than 32 disciplines, the festival is expected to inject demand into local markets. Small enterprises, particularly in host communities, stand to gain from increased foot traffic and spending during the two-week event.
The National Sports Commission views the festival as part of broader efforts to stimulate grassroots development and create economic value through sports under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
