Katsina State is set to establish a globally recognized halal meat value chain to empower local farmers, create jobs, and attract foreign exchange. Governor Dikko Radda revealed this in Jeddah during a high-level meeting with the Saudi Export-Import Bank (Saudi EXIM).
With its rich livestock base and predominantly Muslim population, Katsina aims to tap into the booming global halal market projected to surpass $3 trillion by 2028.
The planned collaboration will see Saudi EXIM provide financing for halal-certified abattoirs, logistics, and export credit, while Genesis Energy will supply cold storage infrastructure. The initiative promises direct access to markets in Saudi Arabia and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

Governor Radda said the partnership aligns with Saudi's Vision 2030 and Katsina's industrial push, adding that his government will create enabling policies and frameworks to support a thriving halal meat export ecosystem.
"Our farmers, youth, and producers are ready for the world," Radda said. "We're not waiting for development; we're exporting it."
The project is expected to boost agro-industrial growth, strengthen SME participation, and position Katsina as a halal export hub in Nigeria.
