The Kogi State Drugs and Medical Supplies Management Agency is creating fresh opportunities for pharmaceutical SMEs as it engages 15 drug manufacturers to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for pooled procurement under the Africa Research Center for Excellence in Supply Chain Management (ARC-ESM).
Executive Secretary, Pharm. Ibrahim Salamat Onize, said the plan will not only guarantee steady drug supplies but also deliver a 25% price reduction, boosting affordability and market competitiveness.
She added that local pharmaceutical distributors will be registered with the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), opening doors for SMEs to participate in state contracts while generating revenue through registrations and tender fees.

The agency will also set up a quality control laboratory, where drug testing will create paid service opportunities for manufacturers and distributors while improving public trust in local supply chains.
Workshops with partners such as NPSCMP, PVAC, HSCL, and Engender Health have already been held to strengthen logistics and inventory management—key areas where SMEs can plug in.
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams Adeiza, noted that the state is committed to supporting businesses in the health sector as part of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo's broader agenda to grow the economy through healthcare investments.
