Fish farmers along the Anwai River in Asaba have expressed gratitude to the Delta State Government following the commencement of de-silting work on the river. The initiative is seen as a strategic intervention to protect fish farming enterprises and other agricultural activities from flooding.
The farmers, who rely heavily on the river for their operations, noted that previous flood incidents had posed significant risks to their fish ponds, farmland, and equipment. By clearing silt and improving water flow, the de-silting project is expected to safeguard their investments and improve productivity.
Supervised by the Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Ejiro Jamani, the project highlights Governor Sheriff Oborevwori's commitment to environmental sustainability and economic resilience, particularly for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) operating in agriculture and aquaculture.
"This intervention is not just about flood control—it's about supporting the livelihoods of our small business owners and ensuring food security," Jamani stated during the inspection.
The move aligns with the state government's broader agenda to promote rural enterprise, improve infrastructure, and create a more enabling environment for agribusiness growth across Delta State.
