The Federal Government of Nigeria has unveiled plans to set up cattle breeding centers across the six geopolitical zones of the country, in a bid to modernize livestock production and strengthen the agricultural value chain.
The initiative is expected to enhance meat and dairy productivity, support rural economies, and create new opportunities for small and medium-scale agribusinesses, particularly those engaged in livestock farming, veterinary services, feed production, and distribution.

Government officials noted that the centers will focus on improving indigenous breeds, promoting artificial insemination, and introducing modern animal husbandry practices to increase yields and reduce conflicts linked to open grazing.
Stakeholders in the livestock sector have welcomed the move, describing it as a strategic step toward achieving food security, driving agro-industrial growth, and supporting youth entrepreneurship in rural communities.
Implementation details, including site selection and partnerships with private sector actors, are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
