Smallholder farmers in Zamfara State are set for a major boost as Governor Dauda Lawal just flagged off the distribution of 59,205 bags of fertilizer and other crucial farm inputs.
This initiative, launched on Wednesday, is a significant step to strengthen the agricultural sector ahead of the 2025 wet farming season, directly impacting countless small businesses in the state.
The massive input rollout includes 98 trucks of fertilizer, along with substantial quantities of rice and maize seeds, herbicides, insecticides, and seed dressing chemicals. This direct provision aims to alleviate key challenges faced by small farmers, ensuring they have the necessary resources for a productive season.

Governor Lawal emphasized that this program is a vital investment in food security and rural livelihoods, defining it as a moral obligation given that over 85% of Zamfara's population engages in farming. To ensure transparency and prevent diversion, the entire distribution process has been digitized, guaranteeing that these essential materials reach genuine farmers.
Beyond immediate input, the state is pushing for long-term reforms, including promoting mechanization and improving market access.
This comprehensive approach will benefit 59,205 smallholder farmers, including women, youth, and persons with special needs, promising a more inclusive and prosperous agricultural landscape for Zamfara's small businesses.
