The Federal Government has commenced a tour of key textile hubs in Kaduna State, including United Nigerian Textiles Limited (UNTL) and Chellco Industries, as part of efforts to revitalise Nigeria's cotton, textile, and garment industry.
Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, John Enoh, led the delegation alongside the Managing Director of the Bank of Industry, Dr. Olasupo Olusi.
During the visit to UNTL, the Emir of Kano and Chairman of the company, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, lamented the 2022 shutdown of the factory, which had previously employed over 10,000 people across the value chain. He attributed the closure to economic challenges but stressed the sector's potential for job creation and industrial growth.

At Chellco Industries, operational since 1980, Enoh commended the management for their resilience, noting the company's current workforce of over 290 employees and its continued contribution to the local economy despite decades of industry headwinds.
The government's renewed focus on the textile sector is aimed at boosting local production, creating jobs, and strengthening value chains from cotton farming to garment manufacturing.
